Behavioral Health Consulting

Through its behavioral health arm—Avant-Garde Behavioral Health Resources—Avant-Garde Consulting provides specialized expertise in behavioral health program design, implementation, and system strengthening for nonprofit, community-based, and faith-based organizations serving historically underserved populations.

The practice supports organizations at all stages of development, from emerging programs to established service systems, in designing and strengthening culturally responsive mental health and substance use initiatives. The focus is on improving access, reducing disparities, and enhancing outcomes in community-based settings.

Core areas of work include strategic program development, employee training and professional development, clinical consultation, stakeholder facilitation, proposal development, and support for prevention and intervention programming. This includes trauma-informed program design for gun violence survivors, as well as academic writing, literature reviews, and research support for behavioral health leaders and initiatives.

The emphasis is on building practical, sustainable systems that improve service delivery in real-world settings.

Dr. Mathylde Frontus brings more than 20 years of experience across behavioral health practice, community mental health, and program development in nonprofit and public sector settings in New York and Boston. Her work spans direct clinical practice, program design and oversight, and organizational consultation in schools, community health centers, and community-based agencies.

She has designed and led numerous mental health initiatives focused on expanding access to care in low-income communities of color and has served as a psychotherapist, behavioral health provider, and clinical consultant.

Dr. Frontus also served as Chair of the New York State Assembly Subcommittee on Minority Mental Health, where she advanced policy efforts to improve access to culturally responsive behavioral health services across New York State. She is an alumna of the SAMHSA-funded Minority Fellow Program (MFP) in Mental Health and holds advanced training and degrees in clinical social work, clinical psychology, and social policy, including a PhD from the Columbia University School of Social Work, where her research examined mental health needs in African American communities and the role of clergy in care delivery.

She remains committed to advancing culturally responsive, accessible, and equity-driven behavioral health services.
